My Top 3 Favourite Paint Colours Right Now - Sept 2024

If you haven’t noticed, I kind of have an obsession with colour.

I often don’t just stick with neutrals (although I LOVE a neutral piece of art), but I do love colours that I see from nature, like blues, greens and yellows.

So, it’s no surprise that at this very moment, those are my go-to’s for paint colours and I will share with you what they are, how they can be used and why I think you should try them too.

Color #1: Nickel Azo Yellow

I have to admit that I wouldn’t have tried this colour if it wasn’t for an amazing painter James Musil. He uses Azo gold for his backdrops and I accidentally picked up Azo Yellow. Although it was a bit of an accident, I would’ve NEVER picked this up if it if it wasn’t for him because it looks like a dirty yellow.

Boy, was I wrong! It looks kinda ugly from the tube, but it looks beautiful on a canvas.

Description of Nickel Azo: When mixed with white or cream, it provides the most beautiful sunshine yellow. Check out this reel on Instagram that shows how it turns into the BEST yellow.

When to use Nickel Azo Yellow: Use this colour when you want to add sunshine in your sky or a sun reflection off the water. You can’t get much brighter than this.

Color #2: Cobalt Blue Hue

Ahhhhh. Cobalt Blue.

It is so bright but soothing at the same time.

Description of Cobalt Blue:
A bright blue that’s both warm and cool.

When to use Cobalt Blue:
Mix with white or cream and you can use in both sky or water or as a complementary pop of colour in an abstract. I’m using it for so many things these days.

Color #3: Light Blue Violet

This one has been a fav for awhile now. This calming colour brings a nice warmth to anything and honestly, just makes me happy looking at it.

Description of Blue Violet:
A light blue and purple hue.

When to use Blue Violet:
I use it ALL OF THE TIME for skies or foggy looking landscapes. It has the most calming quality about it.

Bonus Colour: Mixing both Azo Yellow and Cobalt Blue together to make green

When you mix these two colours together you get a beautiful deep green that I like to use in landscapes and trees. Add in more Azo yellow and white for a brighter green, or add in Titan Buff for a muted green.

Try These Paint Colours for Yourself

If you’re a nature lover like me, you’ve got to add sunshiney Azo Yellow, deep cobalt blue or sky-perfect blue violet to your list of purchases.

I’d love to hear if you have a favourite colour in your nature palette.
